Leather. As you read this, try to sense it…the feel, the smell. Now, think about Marilyn Levine‘s ‘leather‘ made of clay. A Canadian artist, born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, her ability to replicate leather in clay was unparalleled. Nothing is missing…textures, grains, suppleness. Some of her ‘leather’ jackets are new and buttery, some beat up. The same with her  her belts and briefcases. Grommets, zipper, buckles, all made of clay. One of the most interesting aspects of her work is the drape she achieves through careful and painstaking work. Let’s take a look at her ‘wardrobe’ —
