Videos: UK pottery specialist recreates medieval vessels

Fascinating, high-quality videos of Andrew MacDonald,  pottery specialist. In these videos, the Lincolnshire potter is working from the Luttrell Psalter, a British sacred text. The videos show MacDonald creating some of the vessels shown in the psalter artwork. Click here to learn even more about this historical document. “Andrew is a specialist potter who creates Prehistoric, Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Medieval, Post medieval and Maiolica pots as well as his own designs,” according to Wag Screen, Lincolnshire Heritage Filmmakers. MacDonald’s studio is the stuff of dreams: ancient brick exterior, crisp, white interior, high ceilings and much light. Historically, the medieval times were one of the high points along the continuum. The field was exploding, with high levels of production, innumerable potteries, evolution of design and technical skill. MacDonald addresses characteristics of medieval pottery throughout the duration of the videos. Three videos have been posted, two of MacDonald and a trailer of a movie about the Luttrell Psalter, which also features MacDonald’s pottery. History brought to life in a well-made production…. Do take a peek; it’s well worth your while.
